Riding is more than a sport; It’s a lifestyle
Do you remember that first time you strapped a board to your feet and, (if you aren’t one of those ungodly people who can just giver on the first run!) tumbled down the mountain? Bruised up and exhausted at the end of that first body bending day, you still wanted to go again and, again and, again. What is it about Snowboarding that keeps us coming back for more time in, time out? Certainly not the aching muscles and bruised ass… could there be more to this sport then just the sport itself?
Sure hucking yourself down a mountain at ferocious speeds of oh about 50-100k or so has its thrills, believe me it does; especially when all the sudden before you know it, you’ve just dropped off a 30’ cliff and holy shit! You are still alive! Sure, shredding up first chair pow after a huge dump of snow has major implications on loving the gnar but, there is a whole other element that often hides in the shadow’s of the event itself. It is almost like the secret element of snowboarding only WE know about and no one else, or at least I like to think so!
The
night before riding, either at a cabin on the hill or whoever’s
house is closest to the Highway the celebration of our sport begins.
Likely a few beers are going around and the tunes are goin’, everyone’s
gear is laid out and ready for inspection to ensure the next day
goes smoothly… New boards are drooled over and new boots broken
in, people are probably stapped in on your living room floor trying
to bust out some ollies and if you live where it snows, a few hard
cores are probably in your back yard trying to build a jump…
